THE    BROADBENT 'DOODLE'   BOW

A  PLASTIC TEACHING AID FOR BEGINNERS & OTHERS

How were you taught to teach pupils how to hold a bow? Perhaps: "Tell the pupil to take a pencil and ...."
Yes, a pencil is light and can be balanced without gripping. But how much better it would be with the aid of a simulated plastic "teaching bow"

1. IN PRACTICAL TERMS:
It would certainly be more realistic, and have a more authentic shape and feel about it.
Like a pencil, it could be kept in the pocket, and be more easily accessible than the "bow in the case".
I believe that it is not as easy for the beginner to place the fingers correctly on a pencil as the teacher, who is already familiar with the real thing, thinks it is!

2. PSYCHOLOGICALLY:
Possessing such a "practice bow" would help to emphasise the importance of how to hold a bow correctly, at a time when the pupil is thinking more about wanting to play tunes!
